The Staff Accountant will support our daily Corporate activities and ancillary benefit services, including COBRA, MPA, and FSA processing.  The position will ensure that such transactions are properly initiated, approved, and reconciled between our various client HR claims systems, our accounting system and banking.  This position will work directly with the Supervisor of Custodial Accounting and Controller.  The Staff Accountant is an instrumental member of our accounting and finance organization. 

What you will do:


  • Process monthly corporate client credit card payments and direct debits in the accounting system and email payment remittances
  • Corporate accounts receivable Identify and post daily incoming check/wire/ACH payments to client accounts  
  • Corporate AR collections - Review accounts receivable aging and contact clients regarding past due invoices
  • Support the month end close process by posting recurring journal entries, updating workpapers and reconciling balances back to the financial statements
  • Cross train and act as backup for the weekly corporate accounts payable process coding, getting invoice approvals, entering invoices into the accounting system, processing invoices for payment, mailing checks, emailing payment remittances
  • Support the monthly corporate invoicing process where needed by pulling reports, summarizing and providing information


  • Process client monthly carrier premium invoices Prepare check request, enter vendor invoices and pay via check/ACH, mail checks
  • Monthly bank reconciliations for custodial bank accounts
  • Review and stamp weekly FSA reimbursement checks
  • Record voided/NSF checks for FSA and COBRA in the accounting system
  • Issue stop payments on participant claim checks  
  • Review custodial bank accounts on a monthly basis and contact participants regarding uncashed claim checks greater than 90 days
  • Research and document a process for uncashed COBRA checks and escheatment of funds to the appropriate states
  • Assist with various steps of the monthly COBRA reconciliation process including but not limited to preparing branch reports, sending monthly premium remittance reports via regular mail and email, processing COBRA premium payments, researching issues
  • Process and deposit daily COBRA participant checks incoming to the Corporate office   
  • Audits of individual client accounts and benefit plans for FSA and COBRA
  • Debit client bank accounts for FSA payroll funding
  • Act as backup for weekly FSA processing Includes preparing the weekly FSA claims calculations with data provided by the FSA department and Alegeus system
  • Pull requested documents for annual external SOC and Financial audits
  • Cross train on other functions within the department to fill in and support where needed

What you will need:

  • 4 year degree in Accounting or Finance, or 1-3 years equivalent work experience
  • Accounting, treasury, AP and AR experience a plus
  • Prior benefit experience a plus
  • Exposure to NetSuite a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
